EL PASO, Texas —

The owner of a small white terrier is being sought after the pup was mauled by a pack of dogs.

The terrier was rescued by a good Samaritan while he was under attack by other dogs, said an employee with the Humane Society of El Paso.

Friday afternoon, Justin Reven, 58, of Indian Hills; Colo., pulled over in San Elizario, Texas when he saw the attack.

Reven, according to the Humane Society, put himself in danger to help the dog escape a near-death experience.

The dog who laid motionless with serious injuries was taken by Reven to the El Paso Humane Society for help.

Dr. Dennis Flossi, a veterinarian, was called in to help aid with the dog's wounds. After more than three hours in surgery, Flossi named the unidentified dog "Mater."

The Humane Society is looking for "Mater's" owner.

If the owner does not come forward the dog will be placed up for adoption after he recovers from his injuries.
