HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. —

A Holloman Air Force Base officer was killed Friday in a Colorado ski accident after he collided with a tree, officials said.

First Lt. Arthur M. Glaz, 27, was the vehicle management flight commander with the 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Holloman.

Officials said Glaz was skiing at Keystone Resort and skied down an intermediate trail when he struck a tree. Officials said he was wearing a helmet at the time.

Glaz was taken to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center.

"Team Holloman is so saddened by this tragic loss of one of our best," said Col. Ken Ekman, 49th Wing vice commander. "First Lt. Glaz was a great officer, Airman and husband. Please join me in praying for his family, particularly his wife."

Glaz, who was originally from Palos Hills, Ill., had served more than three years in the Air Force and was stationed at Holloman since July 2012.

A Catholic Mass and memorial ceremony will be held from 10 a.m. to about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the Holloman Chapel.

Attire for the official party and designated LRS members will be service dress or business attire. Other Holloman Airmen, civilians and family members are encouraged to attend in the uniform of the day or smart casual attire. The service will be open to all Department of Defense ID cardholders and escorted visitors.

Glaz's funeral will be Feb. 16 in Chicago where his family will be joined by a team from Holloman to mourn his passing and celebrate his life.

The family asks that flowers be sent to the Demar Kaminski Funeral Home, 7861 S. 88th Ave., Justice, Ill., 60458. Donations offered in his memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Dogs on Deployment.
