'Shut Em' Down Productions' Gets Shut Down

EL PASO, Texas —

Shut Em' Down Productions is a company that promotes hip-hop nights at some area nightclubs. The company is known to fill venues with patrons, but its also known for attracting problems.

"Me having them here on Thursday nights would've brought bad attention my way right now," said Chris Marrow, the owner of Club ICE in west El Paso.

He said he's decided to cut all ties with Shut Em' Down Productions. For the last month, the group hosted hip hop night at Club ICE every Thursday, but Marrow said he won't be renewing their contract.

"I know that that company brings drama and nonsense, and it's good that that drama is not brought here," said Lesley Brown, who frequents Club ICE and said she's been to several parties put on by Shut Em' Down Productions.

Last Sunday, when Shut Em' Down took its hip-hop party to Graham Central Station, it ended with 11 people shot in the parking lot. In part, El Paso police blamed the type of crowd the group attracts.

It's the same crowd, which police said started a major fight last year at Downtown's Club Blu. That's why it's no surprise Graham's is now the latest venue to shut them down. Following the shooting, he suspended hip-hop Saturdays.

"I know that that company has gone to different clubs, and every place they go, they end up getting shut down from that particular club," said Lesley Brown, of west El Paso.

However, the party still isn't over. Shut Em' Down Productions is now moving its weekend parties to Montana Vista at D'Club. The owner of D'Club said he's not worried the group will bring a repeat of problems.

"Our next-door neighbors are the sheriff's, and they're less than two blocks away. So, if anything happens, they're response time is going to be quick," said Shirden Tuberville.

KFOX spoke with Ricky Martinez, the owner of Shut Em' Down Productions. He said with fewer venues wanting to do business with him, it will hurt. All other questions were referred to his attorney, who hasn't responded.
