EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso Police say a man who was traveling west on Interstate 10 tried to shoot and kill himself Friday.

Police say officers responded to the westbound lanes of I-10 at the Zaragoza on-ramp around 7:15 p.m. to a report of a man shot.

Investigators believe the man and his wife got into a verbal argument while she was driving.

The man is believed to have pulled out a gun and then shot himself in the head, authorities said.

His wife call 9-1-1, stopped the car and removed him from it.

The man was taken to Del Sol Medical center.

He is being treated for a gunshot wound, and is said to be in serious condition.

As KFOX 14 reported Friday night, the westbound lanes of I-10 at Zaragoza were partially closed Friday from 7:25 until 9:05 p.m.

Police say the investigation continues.
