EL PASO, Texas —

Spring break is notorious for partying and drinking, and the El Paso County sheriff's office wants to make sure the roads are safe during that time.

The sheriff's office will conduct a Spring Break DWI Wave from March 8 through March 17. Officers will be focusing on alcohol-related offenses, officials said.

The wave is one of four that take place throughout the year, are grant-funded and coordinated by the Texas Department of Transportation.

Officials said teens are at a greater risk of death in alcohol-related crashes than the overall population, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Deputies will also crack down on drinking-related offenses of minors including the purchase, possession and consumption of alcohol, misrepresentation of age by a minor and selling alcohol to a minor, officials said.
