Severe Weather Inconvenient For El Pasoans

EL PASO, Texas —

Over 1 inch of rain was recorded in the borderland. It left several streets flooded, caused back-to-back accidents, and for the second night in a row several parts of town were left without power.

Around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, a black cloud lingered over the sky, lightning was striking close, and winds were blasting at more than 60 miles per hour. On top of that, in some parts of town there was even more damaging weather.

"It's hailing, messing up your vehicles," said George Callejas, of east El Paso.

Heavy rains pounded the area for more than four hours.

"It's kind of inconvenient driving in it," said Burt Gidecumv, who lives in the lower valley.

Several roads had to be shutdown for a couple of hours because of the threat of flooding. The slick roads also the likely culprit behind more than a dozen accidents.

"Slow down, just to slow down," said Callejas.

Callejas admits a lot of people don't know how to drive in the rain in the Sun City because of just that it's the Sun City.

"It's getting crazy, because I'm not use to it. It's always dry and it's crazy right now," said Callejas.

Fire dispatchers also said the weather is to blame for several power outages across town. From the lower valley to northeast El Paso several power lines were seen sparking, and transformers were blown.

"Usually, it's all hot and sunny, then it raining, it's pouring everywhere," said Callejas.

Even though a little inconvenient for a few hours most El Pasoans admit it was a nice change.

"Need it, cool off everything, get a little moisture here," said Gidecumv.
