Severe Weather Alert for El Paso, Hudspeth Counties

Red Flag Warning in effect until 7 p.m.

By Lauren Rozyla

EL PASO, Texas —

The KFOX14 Severe Weather Team is reporting a severe weather alert for El Paso, Hudspeth and Lincoln Counties.  Due to the strong winds and low humidity, a red flag warning remains in effect Sunday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. A red flag warning means criticial fire weather conditions are either occuring now, or will shortly.

Forecasters expect 20-foot winds, West-Southwest 35-to-45 miles per hour, with gusts 50 to 55 miles per hour. The strongest winds will be along the East-facing mountain slopes.

These conditions greatly impact fire-spread potential.  Forecasters said any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Temperatures will range from a high of 75 to a low of 43 degrees with partly cloudy skies. Winds will range between 2-and-22 miles per hour from the West Northwest. Less than one-tenth an inch of rain is possible.
