U.S. Department of State

Passport day across America is canceled, due to the sequestration.

What is sequestration? It's a series of automatic budget cuts to government agencies taking place on March 1 in order to handle the national debt.

Passport Day, an annual event, is held at passport agencies and allows U.S. citizens to apply for or renew their passport book or passport card.

The next scheduled Passport Day was supposed to be held on March 9. An official with the Department of State said the El Paso Passport Agency will not be open to the public on March 9.

Some passport agencies such as post offices, county clerks and libraries will be open to process passports on March 9.

Search for the passport acceptance facility nearest you.
