Secretary Of Defense Visits Fort Bliss

EL PASO, Texas —

U.S. defense secretary Robert Gates spent Wednesday night at Fort Bliss.

Wednesday afternoon Gates arrived on post to attend the retirement, enlistment, and re-enlistment ceremony for Fort Bliss soldiers.

Gates administered the oath to 68 soldiers who enlisted and re-enlisting in the Army.

During his visit to Fort Bliss Thursday, the Secretary is expected to announce changes that could ease the stigma returning troops often feel when they seek mental health counseling for combat stress issues.

Gates will talk about the changes during a tour of Fort Bliss's post-traumatic stress disorder treatment center.
