EL PASO, Texas —

A school bus filled with students was rear-ended by truck Tuesday afternoon.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies were called out the 14700 block of Las Colonias Road to reports after a vehicle accident involving a school bus from William D. Surratt Elementary School.

When deputies arrived, they discovered that the driver of the truck ignored the bus' flashers and stop-arm sign because he was distracted, said deputies.

The driver of the truck veered to the left to avoid crashing into the bus, striking the left rear corner of it.

No injuries were reported to any of the 53 students, driver and bus monitor, said deputies.

District officials released the students on-board the bus to their parents.

The driver of the bus told deputies he was distracted and did not see the school bus.

The driver was cited for fail to control speed.
