EL PASO, Texas —

Police are warning citizens of reports of a scammer posing as a representative from the Social Security Administration and requesting victims' bank account information.

Police said the scammer tells the victim that there have been issues with their Social Security benefits and asks for their bank information, such as account number and name of bank.

The Social Security Administration will never request personal banking information from citizens over the telephone, according to the White Collar/Financial Crimes unit.

If anyone feels that they were affected by this or any other scam, they are asked to call the El Paso Police Department at 915-832-4400.
