Sandbag Confusion For Some As Monsoon Begins

Related

EL PASO, Texas —

Some Borderland residents called the KFOX newsroom Tuesday morning frustrated that even though it was raining, El Paso Water Utilities was not opening all of its sandbag handout locations early.

A line formed at the Album Park location in East El Paso Tuesday morning expecting the location to open, but utility officials said despite rain, not all locations would open early.

Four of the five locations were scheduled to open at 2 p.m., only some opened early. Album Park, however, opened at the scheduled time.

"This morning, there was some in more areas than others and it was sort of hard to tell, so we opened a few at first and eventually we opened some others. That was because we wanted to serve the customers. This is the first week, real week of the monsoon season and we want to make sure people are prepared," said Christina Montoya, a utility spokeswoman.

Montoya said to not rely on locations opening up early just because it is raining. They will make a decision to open some locations at their discretion. If you want to see if any locations are opening early because of rain call El Paso Water Utilities customer service at (915) 594-5500.
