Rollover Wreck Shuts Down I-10 East In Fabens

FABENS, Texas —

Special Traffic Investigators were called to the scene of a one-vehicle rollover wreck on Interstate 10 East at mile marker 51 near Fabens at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Sgt. Juan Wittke said a Dodge Caravan was traveling on I-10 west when the driver lost control, rolled over in the median and landed upright across lanes of I-10 east.

Wittke said six people were traveling in the van. Four people were ejected from the vehicle during the accident including two children under the age of 12, a woman and a 17-year-old boy. The 17-year-old suffered severe head trauma. All six people were transported to area hospitals.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but Wittke said a tire blowout could be to blame. Investigators found shreds of rubber near the scene. Wittke said alcohol is not considered a factor at this time.

I-10 east was shutdown for several hours during the investigation. Traffic was rerouted through exit 49.
