"She was ejected about 60 feet from the vehicle. Right now we don't know the extent of her injuries; we know she suffered several facial lacerations and internal injuries," Deputy Jesus Tovar said shortly after the crash.
The cause of the wreck remains unknown, but traffic investigators shut down the eastbound lanes of I-10, creating a nightmare for drivers.
"I'm just trying to get home and it's been a while, and I don't know what's going on," Las Cruces resident Joe Laredo said.
KFOX spotted several drivers running over the median to get around the crash, which is illegal.
"Their vehicles could get damaged. Not only is it against the law, but they could cause an accident," Tovar said.
