Resler Arroyo Conservation Complete

January 28, 2006 —

Amid cheers and applause members of the Coronado Neighborhood Association saw their labor come to fruition Saturday.

A dedication ceremony was held Saturday for members who fought to preserve the Resler canyon from development.

The Resler canyon will now be called the Wakeem-Teschner Nature Preserve at Resler canyon.

Richard Teschner is a UTEP professor, who last year used inheritance money to buy the land and keep it from development.

"It's home to lots of animals and to lots of plants that would be displaced if they didn't have this wonderful, wonderful arroyo and canyon to live in -- that has always been my major consideration. It's a nature preserve, we are conserving nature, and it's so important in today's overcrowded world," said Professor Teschner.

The land Teschner bought was donated to the Frontera Land Alliance.
