Residents Pick Up After Damaging Hail Hits West El Paso

EL PASO, Texas —

After powerful storms pound parts of El Paso late Friday night, residents woke up to quite a mess Saturday morning. Everything from broken windows to dings and dents on car hoods could be seen. The storm may have moved quickly but it sure left its mark. Patrick Amy lives in one of the areas hardest hit by the storm, West El Paso. He described what he heard when the storm hit as "like bombs hitting."

The noise from the storms shook up 11- year-old Cassidy Amy.

"I covered my head. I thought it was going to come through the roof and I was scared," Cassidy said.

Her father spend most of the morning cleaning up glass from the back windows and sky lights that where shattered in the storm.

The Amy family was not the only ones with major damage from the storm. Gloria Frietze woke up to find a tree in her back yard knocked over.

"Then when we came to our back yard this is what we found. A broken tree and all this mess right here," Frietze said. The Frietze Mazda Miata took a blow as well.

"The wind blew the cover off and we just saw that it looked like somebody got a hammer and hammered it all over and broke the windshield," Frietze said.

Patrick Amy said even though the storm caused property damaged, the important thing to him is that his family was not hurt.

"Everybody was OK. So I guess that all that matters. Property can be fixed," Patrick said.

Insurance adjusters will head out to the West El Paso neighborhood on Monday morning. No damage estimate has yet been released.
