Residents Experiencing Mail Problems Again

Diana Rosales said her magazine dated in February usually comes at the beginning of the month.

"Just yesterday I got February's issue and it's already the end of February," Rosales said.

Rosales said her mail is not only arriving weeks late, but her letter carrier is also dropping off her mail late in the evening.

"It was around 7:00, 7:30, and it was already pitch black when the mail had gotten here," Rosales said.

We found Rosales isn't the only one who is getting her mail late.

"We received very late, 6:30 , some cases 7 ," said Patricia Valdez, Rosales's neighbor.

"It has been coming late and it hasn't come on time," said Connie Nettles, Rosales' neighbor.

"Right now we have 24 vacant positions, but there is nobody to fill them up because they don't have any people that they are hiring," said Frank Chavez, U.S. postal worker.

This isn't the first time Chavez has told KFOX about this situation. A year ago Chavez alerted us to the same problem: thousands of pounds of mail and very few employees to go through it.

Also about a year ago, the spokesperson with the U.S. Postal Service denied this, and said there are no problems- but the occasional lost piece of mail.

Chavez says this is not the case

"The staffing when you don't have enough people to work the mail, that's a problem at the plant, that's a problem at the stations, that's why carriers are delivering at seven or eight o'clock at night," Chavez said.

And Chavez believes these mail problems will continue until more workers are hired.

Again, KFOX was not able to get a response from the U.S. Postal Service. Chavez said it's not just first class mail that is not being processed in a timely matter, he said Priority mail is not being processed everyday like it should. He also said Express mail is behind and so are rebates, where customers send in a proof of purchase to get money from a company. Chavez said he has seen rebates dated two months ago still sitting at the main post office.
