Resident Concerned About Traffic Problems At Andress High School

EL PASO, Texas —

Concerned residents called KFOX saying traffic conditions around Andress High School are way too dangerous.

"My main concern is that these streets, they're being treated like a highway, like a freeway," said northeast El Paso resident Yolanda Moreno.

KFOX cameras went out to the school at 5400 Sun Valley Drive on around 7 a.m. Tuesday, but didn't see too many drivers speeding. At the same time KFOX was there, El Paso police officers were issuing citations. When school buses arrived and stopped at 7:30 a.m., KFOX cameras captured a van and a PT Cruiser ignoring the stop sign posted on the bus.

It seemed like some motorists disobeyed the traffic signal on the bus, putting students in danger.

Moreno said she wanted KFOX to see the dangerous traffic situation. "That's why I eagerly called KFOX and wanted to see if they can bring it up on the air."

She said she hopes the attention will make her neighborhood safe.

As of late Tuesday afternoon, El Paso Independent School District officials had not responded to phone calls seeking comment.
