EL PASO, Texas —

The fallout of Tuesday's primary election continues.

Rep. Silvestre Reyes not only lost the election Tuesday night, it appears his campaign has shut down.

Reyes' campaign sent KFOX 14 a statement Wednesday afternoon stating after years in office, he's conceded the race.

In the statement Reyes thanks his supporters and said he will help whoever wins in November transition into the seat.

The statement has a different tone than Tuesday night where Reyes was MIA most of the night at his own campaign party. When he finally spoke to his supporters he guaranteed them something that won't be happening -- a run-off.

"We're going to win this thing," said Reyes. "Things didn't go the way we thought they were going to go tonight."

Reyes assured his supporters he was going into a run-off with Beto O'Rourke for the seat he's held for the last 16 years.

"We should rededicate ourselves to continue to work hard for the next six weeks. Can I ask you to do that?," asked Reyes.

The crowd loudly cheered. However, earlier Tuesday afternoon KFOX 14 caught up with Reyes and asked him about the possibility of a run-off.

"You were talking about a run-off. I don't think it's going to be a run-off. I think we're going to decide it today," he said.

O'Rourke led right out of early voting, 51 percent to Reyes' 43. About a half-hour after those numbers were released, Reyes showed up to his campaign party, met with his staff and was quickly ushered back on to the elevator and wasn't to be seen until 10:30 p.m.

"When you look at all the negative stuff that was thrown at me and I'm still in a run-off that's pretty indicative that people here in El Paso support me," said Reyes when he returned.

Reyes said he waited so long to go back to his party because he was hoping he had concrete numbers.

The final numbers show O'Rourke had just over 50 percent of the vote.

While O'Rourke was quick to post his win on social media like Facebook, Reyes' pages haven't been updated in nearly 24 hours.

Reyes is back in Washington, D.C. where President Obama is signing his border tunnel bill Wednesday night.
