Rain, Thunder Pound Dona Ana County

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Flashes of lightning, roars of thunder and hard rain could be seen and heard throughout Dona Ana County Monday.

The storm moved in quickly around 6 p.m. and caught many residents off guard.

On University Avenue electrical crews were working quickly to replace downed traffic lights, and on the east mesa many residents reported their electricity flickered on and off.

Because of the dry, triple-digit temperatures for much of June, many residents welcomed the rain, but dreaded driving in it.

"I do enjoy it, but to an extent. As long as it doesn't get too crazy, it doesn't get to dangerous on the roads and on the houses," said Monica Perez of Dona Ana County.
