EL PASO, Texas —

In the heat of the day and during rush hour traffic, an area just west of downtown El Paso lost power around 4:20 p.m. on Monday.

The power outage extended from Montana Avenue to Main Street.

El Paso police were at intersections controlling traffic. Later in the evening, stop signs were posted at a number of intersections.

An El Paso Electric spokesman said an incident happened at a substation, but he could not elaborate.

According to an El Paso Community College representative all classes held at the Rio Grande campus were canceled Monday evening due to power outage in the area.

Power was restored to parts of the area around 8:30 p.m. Monday.
