Police said they started their investigation a few months ago after they got a tip that two spas were acting as a front for prostitution.

They found an advertisement on Craiglist for the Bally Massage Spa on Don Roser Street, and police decided to go undercover. The ad offered a "beautiful friendly Asian staff" along with a seductive photo of an Asian woman.

Once inside, officers were given a quote for sexual serivces but they won't specify what that included.

Neighbors who work next door to the Green Hot Spa, the other spa included in the investigation, said they suspected it all along.

"I knew it," Crystal Esquibel said. "It looked just a little suspicious."

Neighbors said the spa just opened about two months ago and said the female workers often dressed in revealing outfits. They said it seemed like the owners and employees were hiding something.

"They had it boarded up so you couldn't look back in," Jane Elmore said. "And they came out not wanting us to see back in the back."

Police said they believe the spas were owned by the same woman, and they said they believe this isn't the first time she's owned this kind of business.

"She would purchase a business, start it up, get it going, and after she starts making a profit, she would turn around and sell it and move out of town," Dan Trujllo of the Las Cruces Police Department said.

Police and neighors said the owner only employed other women, and their customers seemed to be strictly men.

"I don't think I've ever seen a woman go in there," Esquibel said.

No arrests have been made yet, but police are interviewing two female employees from each of the spas.

The owner could face charges of promoting prostitution.
