EL PASO,Texas —

Scenic Drive was shut down by the city Monday morning for roadwork.

Pot holes, broken rock walls and concrete are among the problems the city is working on, and it will take two weeks to finish.

Scenic Drive is a busy road not only because the view attracts locals and tourists, but a lot of drivers take the route to cut through central El Paso.

That's why KFOX first told you about the project Friday, but plenty of people were still caught off guard Monday afternoon.

Bill Snow lives in the area and regularly commutes along Scenic Drive, but he said he doesn't mind the roadwork at all.

"I think it's great. It's about time they do it. In fact, where I'm living, they're doing it in the alleys, and it's definitely needed because you have potholes and the pavement's torn up. They're fixing it right now. I think it's great," he said.

The road will not reopen to traffic until Sept 29. But people can still walk to the top of to catch a view of the city on Scenic Sundays. That's the only time the road will be open to anyone.
