LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Two cousins were arrested Saturday morning after police said they burglarized vehicles at an apartment complex.

Police said a resident saw two men, later identified as Jose Frank Madrid, 31, and Sean Melendrez, 18, breaking into a vehicle at 1155 Montana Ave.

Officers spotted the men in a red Ford F150 pickup, and when they approached them, Madrid and Melendrez attempted to flee on foot, police said.

The two were captured and arrested. Officers determined that they burglarized at least two vehicles in the apartment complex parking lot. Melendrez was found with a screwdriver that police said may have been used to break into the vehicles.

Both men were charged with two counts of burglary and one count of conspiracy and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. Melendrez was also charged with being in possession of burglary tools.

Both were booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bail set at $10,000 each.
