Police: Teen who attacked two police officers faces battery charges

By Jesse Martinez

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Police arrested a teen who allegedly attacked two police officers that were trying to arrest his brother.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the Jack in the Box at 501 S. Telshor Blvd. The first-arriving officer saw three young men running away and was able to catch up with one of them.

The officer chased after the other two assailants, and when he attempted to stop Romen Armijo, 16, he was struck in the head by Dominick Armijo, 18, police said.

Dominick then ran toward another officer who was trying to detain Romen and tackled the officer to the ground, police said.

The officers were not seriously injured, and they were able to arrest the brothers, police said.

Dominick Armijo faces two counts of battery upon a peace officer and was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bail set at $5,000. Romen faces juvenile charges.
