EL PASO, Texas —

An El Paso police officer who was arrested and released for suspicion of DWI, evading arrest and illegal possession of a firearm on Fort Bliss has not been charged. The arrest and release happened Monday night.

All Fort Bliss could tell KFOX14 is that the potential charges will be issued in the coming weeks, Fort bliss officials are cooperating with the U.S. Attorney's office and the El Paso Police Department, and this case is being treated like any other civilian arrest on Fort Bliss.

According to the El Paso Police Department, the six-year veteran detective did not stop his car when military police pulled him over. Once he finally stopped, he appeared to be intoxicated and he was illegally carrying a firearm on post.

The officer worked out of the Northeast Regional Command Center and has now been put on administrative leave.

The charges have been handed over to the U.S. Department of Justice.
