Police Name Suspect In Homeless Man's Homicide

Las Cruces police have identified the body of a man found Monday and are treating the death as a homicide.

The victim is a 49-year-old white man who police said is homeless. Police do not believe he is from this area and are not releasing his name pending notification of family.

Police are still investigating the incident, but have named 27-year-old Luis Alvarez Macias as a suspect. He may also go by the name 'Daniel.'

Anyone with information is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 526-8000, or outside the Las Cruces area at 1-800-897-2746.

The Crime Stoppers phone number is operational 24 hours a day and callers do not have to give their name to collect a reward.
