Police Nab 2 Men During Auto Burglary In Downtown El Paso

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Two men were arrested after police said they were spotted by officers stealing a pickup truck in downtown El Paso Tuesday.

The Auto Theft Task Force from the El Paso Police Department witnessed 33-year-old Gabriel Martinez along with 20-year-old Juan Roberto Jakab at a parking lot at 900 East First Ave, said police.

Martinez and Jakab led police on a foot pursuit.

Martinez was charged with theft of $1500 to $20,000 worth of property, theft of vehicle, unlawful use of criminal instrument and evading arrest or detention. Jakab is facing charges of theft of property, theft of vehicle, evading arrest or detention, as well as an additional charge of theft of property, theft of vehicle from a previous case that he confessed to while in custody.
