EL PASO, Texas —

A Lower Valley man is facing murder charges after police said he tried to harm his wife with gas from their stove.

Abner Gerena was arrested Saturday on a charge of criminal attempted murder.

Police said Gerena, 56, and his wife had an argument Saturday morning in a home on the 300 block of Falby Court.

Gerena turned on the gas to their stove and left it running, police said. Police believe that Gerena did that in an attempt to harm his wife in some way.

Gerena's wife grew sick from the fumes. Police have not released information on the wife's condition.

Gerena was booked into the county jail with bail set at $30,000.
