EL PASO, Texas —

A traffic stop led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man on possession charges.

Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, police pulled over a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero for not having a rear license plate light, police said.

The officer smelled burned marijuana coming from the vehicle, and the driver, Andrew Acosta, admitted to smoking earlier in the vehicle, police said.

Acosta, along with two other passengers, got out of the vehicle while the officer called for a drug-sniffing dog.

One tablet of Xanex was found in the ash tray, and Acosta told police he bought the pill from a friend, police said.

Acosta was charged with possession of a controlled substance and multiple misdemeanor warrants. His bail was set at just more than $1,000.
