A man was caught red-handed by police stealing a Valentine's present from a vehicle parked outside a Lower Valley bar, police said.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday near the 800 block of Pendale Road. Officers who were working in the area saw Jose Guadalupe Licon, 20, checking the doors of vehicles parked outside a bar to see if they were unlocked, police said.

Officers saw Licon enter a 2008 black Honda CRV and come out with a bag. He was immediately confronted by them, attempted to fight the officers and resist detention, police said.

Police said they found the vehicle's owner and returned the stolen item, which was clothing that was a Valentine's present.

Licon was detained and found to be carrying a small amount of marijuana. He was charged with resisting arrest, burglary of a vehicle and possession of marijuana under two ounces. He was also booked on seven outstanding municipal court warrants. 

Licon's bail totaled $10,183.83.
