Police: Man assaults father with baseball bat

By Jesse Martinez

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

An argument led a 27-year-old man to attack his father with an aluminum baseball bat, police said.

According to police, Vincent Lopez became upset with his father after Lopez's parents were arguing. Lopez, 27, punched his 52-year-old father until he lost consciousness, police said.

When the man regained consciousness, police said Lopez grabbed an aluminum baseball bat and hit his father several more times.

When police arrived around 8 p.m. Thursday, they saw Lopez arguing with a sibling in front of the apartment in the 800 block of Foster Road.

Lopez refused to comply with police orders, and an officer subdued him with a Taser, police said.

Lopez was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of battery against a household member and one count of evading or obstructing a peace officer.

The victim received non-life-threatening injuries, including bruising to his back, shoulders and head.

He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bail set at $10,000.
