EL PASO, Texas —

Police are investigating a deadly crash that involved a motorcycle near Interstate 10 east between Raynolds and Chelsea on Friday morning.

Around 10:20 a.m., a motorcyclist was attempting to enter the interstate from an on-ramp at the same time as a tractor-trailer, according to Javier Sambrano, a spokesperson for the police department.

Police later identified the motorcyclist as Craig Willis Vanauken, 65.

Sambrano said Vanauken jumped the curb that divided the access road from the on-ramp and was traveling between the semi and guard rails.

Vanauken's motorcycle collided with the semi, and he died at the scene.

The body of the motorcyclist was seen covered with a white cloth as police investigated the crash.

Police said the area is expected to remain closed for the next few hours.

Emergency crews responded at about 7 a.m. Friday to another serious motorcycle accident on the Interstate 10 East on-ramp to the U.S. 54 North ramp.

The accident closed that section until 9:30 a.m.
