Police Investigate Unidentified Body Found In Canal

EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso Police are investigating the discovery of a body in a canal Thursday.

A fire department water rescue team was called out to the canal at Delta and Cypress 1 p.m.

When they arrived they realized the person in the water had been dead for some time.

"It appears the body had been in the water for a while. And apparently, it floated upstream and of course, eventually got caught here at the water control gates. We were able to go inside of course, and retrieve the body and it was turned over to El Paso Police and the Medical Examiner," said Lt. Mario Hernandez.

The cause of death has not been released and so far, the body hasn't been identified.
