Police Investigate Body Found In West El Paso

EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso police are investigating after a body was found in an arroyo near Mesa and Argonaut.

Someone walking along Mesa spotted the body and called 911. Police responded just before 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.

El Paso Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Mears said the remains were of a man, appearing to be in his 50s.

Investigators did not find any obvious signs of foul play and are calling the incident an unattended death, pending an autopsy.

"No telling, at this point, how long the body has been there," said Mears. "We have had cold weather, which actually preserves bodies. So we'll have to wait for the autopsy on that as well. But there's nothing jumping out at us or the investigator from the medical examiner's office to say anything is suspicious at this point."

The far right lane of Mesa was blocked off Wednesday afternoon from Argonaut to just before the Fiesta Shopping Center as officers conducted their investigation.
