El Paso Police Departmnent
EL PASO, Texas —
Police investigators confirmed on Wednesday that the woman and man who were shot in their far east El Paso home were married. They also told KFOX14 the two Fort Bliss soldiers who died in the separate shootings were assigned to the sameĀ unit.
The double shooting happened Monday morning in two separate parts of town. The first happened at the Gooding home on the 3700 block of Coco Palm around 6:42 a.m.
Sgt. First Class James C. Steadman arrived at the home of Lykisha and Kelvin Gooding, and fired a gun at Kelvin's face, wounding him, according to police.
Lykisha was found in the upstairs of the home by Steadman, and was shot and killed, police said.
Police said that Master Sgt. Lykisha T. Gooding was Steadman's supervisor. At the time of the shooting there was a pending disciplinary action that had been filed by Lykisha against Steadman. Police did not say if that was the reason for Steadman shooting Lykisha.
Before Steadman left the scene he was confronted by Kelvin Gooding and shot Steadman in the upper thigh, according to police.
After the shooting at Gooding home, Steadman arrived at an apartment complex at 8937 Kenneth in the northeast around 8:34 a.m. where he and his wife got into a fight that involved a handgun. At some point police said the gun was discharged, striking Steadman in the upper torso. Steadman died as a result of that gunshot wound.
There is no word at this time if Steadman's wife, who hasn't been identified, faces any charges.
KFOX14 spoke to relatives of Lykisha who say they knew there was something that had happened at work between her and Steadman. Be sure to watch KFOX14 News at Six for more developments on this story.
