EL PASO, Texas —
The four pit bulls that attacked a lower valley jogger are home with their owners after the city released the dogs from El Paso Animal Services.
After being quarantined for nearly three weeks, Diablo, Killer, Gizmo and Tonio are back home.
As KFOX 14 initially reported, the four dogs attacked a neighbor as he was jogging past their home just weeks ago. The pit bulls were set to be put down until the non-profit No Kill El Paso stepped in last week and filed an injunction.
The owners of the dogs, Jessica Samaniego and Juan Trivizo, arrived in court Monday for the hearing that was set due to the injunction. However, when they got there, they found out the city had agreed to release their four pit bulls.
"I couldn't ask for anything better. I feel like we got what was deserved to us, our dogs back. You know, they are family; they're not just animals to us," said Trivizo.
"I'm hoping that this is going to be the last time. First and last time. I would hate for anyone to go through the same situation that I went through," said Samaniego.
This ordeal however, isn't over. Samaniego said a court date is still pending to determine whether the dogs will be deemed dangerous. If they are, she said she will have to fulfill certain city requirements, but doesn't believe her dogs' lives are once again at stake.
