Pedestrian Crossing Lower Valley Intersection Dies

EL PASO, Texas —

An 80-year-old woman who was struck while she was crossing Zaragoza Road at the intersection of Socorro Road died.

On Thursday, Maria Stovall was crossing the Lower Valley intersection when 19-year-old Liliana Dominguez of Socorro struck Stovall with a van, police said. The investigation revealed Dominguez made a right turn to head northbound on Zaragoza

The victim was knocked to the ground. Stovall was transported to University Medical Center for treatment of a head injury, but was pronounced dead at 10 a.m., Saturday.

According to police, Dominguez had a green light and Stovall had a red flashing signal.

This is the 15th pedestrian fatality of 2010 compared to three for this same time period in 2009.
