Pebble Hills Dead-End To Be Connected To Joe Battle

EL PASO, Texas —

The dead-end at Pebble Hills and Joe Battle has had far east El Paso residents frustrated for a long time. But a solution is in the near future.

Pebble Hills Boulevard carries traffic east, but then it comes to an abrupt stop near Joe Battle.

"In the evening it gets pretty bad; from Montwood and Zaragosa it backs up. It's a 5 to 10 minute wait just at the light just to turn in," said Michael Mier.

La Tierras resident Michael Mier said some of the traffic gridlock would be alleviated when Pebble Hills is connected to Joe Battle.

"It's going to be a lot easier on all this area. There wouldn't be a need to go toward Montwood. It's a relief from the congestion in that area," said Mier.

"I think the fact that there's over 20,000 people in the area, in the tierras alone, all the congestion there is going to be help somewhat," said City Rep. Rachel Quintana.

Quintana said it's important for the developer, River Oaks to complete this project. She said it's been her priority since she took office and said the project is moving along.

"The developer is River Oaks and the curb and gutter is being layed as we speak. It's only a matter of time that it will be paved and completed," said Quintana.

And when it is completed, traveling will become that much easier in far east El Paso.

"My street hits Pebble Hills. After making the turn on Pebble Hills to get to my street, it would probably take about a minute or so," said Mier.

The project is expected to be completed early next year.
