Parking, Security A Priority At Neon Desert Music Festival

EL PASO, Texas —

Thousands of people are expected to fill downtown El Paso on Saturday morning for the area's first-of-its-kind music festival, Neon Desert.

To maximize security, organizers said they have taken extra steps to make patrons safe, including:

- 80 extra security officers - 30 city of El Paso Police Department officers - several volunteer peace-keeping officers

"We will have them in a certain area," said Zach Paul, a Neon Desert organizer. "So, the thinking is, if something bad were to happen, if a fight breaks out, if something goes down, you will have a police officer; you will have a security officer within your distance that you can grab."

In addition to security, parking for this festival was a priority, according to city of El Paso representatives.

Music lovers have several options for parking:

- Mills Street parking garage - Union Plaza parking garage: $5, all day - Convention Center: $5, all day

For those willing to hop on a bus to get there: - Glory Road Parking Garage (near UTEP): $2 for the first hour, $1 for every additional hour up to $10

After parking in the Glory Road parking garage, get on the Sun Metro bus for a quick ride downtown. The fee is around $2, according to festival organizers.

Sun City Cab will have 85 taxi cabs on call ready to take patrons around town.

For those interested in a cab, fees start at $1.65 when you get in, and cost an additional $2.25 per mile.

Sun Metro buses will also run every 15 minutes.

The Neon Desert Music Festival does spread throughout downtown El Paso, starting at 11 a.m. Organizers said it could be crowded many hours before that.

The festival spans between Mills and Franklin streets, and El Paso and Oregon streets.
