ANTHONY, New Mexico —

The Gadsden Independent School District has backed up Lucia Servin, the principal of Gadsden High School, in statements.

The complaints are that Servin read names of failing students over the intercom last school year and that 22 teachers left the school during her one year on board.

The school district refuses to talk on camera about the issue but has sent two statements claiming that the large turnover was no fault of Servin's.

KFOX14 News spoke with three of the recently departed teachers Wednesday, who all said they left as a direct result of the new leadership.

The district said the announcement incident is a personnel issue, and it's been dealt with.

Esmeralda Hernandez is a parent of a GHS student. She attempted to voice her concerns, and the concerns of many other parents and teachers who put a statement together for the board.

"Because of serious concerns on your part, you hired an investigator to go to Gadsden High School," Hernandez said.

Hernandez was told to stop talking in public and to send an email to the superintendent, Efren Yturralde.

"Start the process there," said Craig Ford, the School Board President. Ford refused to do an interview with KFOX14 News but he said the district has already heard complaints about Servin.

Victoria Conley is a teacher at GHS. She had additional complaints about Servin.

"(One of those complaints was) removing several department chairs for whatever reason," Conley said. "And it would have been fine if there had been an explanation."

Louie Villalobos is a consultant for Gadsden ISD and handles their public information. Villalobos said that a private investigator, hired by the district, looked into the complaints but no changes will likely be made to the school as a result.

"They're just keeping quiet about it," Hernandez said. "They're showing (Servin) support but they're not showing support for their teachers."

Many people have emailed KFOX in support of Servin but not one of them has been willing to speak on camera. The district won't allow Servin to speak with KFOX.
