Parents at La Fe Preparatory School frustrated over new round of resignations

By Samantha Manning

EL PASO, TEXAS —

KFOX14 learned four teachers have resigned from La Fe Preparatory School in the past 12 days after the school lost its principal, assistant principal and administrator within four months.

The school board of directors held a public meeting Wednesday where parents showed up to ask the board about the resignations of a kindergarten teacher, a first-grade teacher and two third-grade teachers.

But the agenda for the meeting did not include public comment, meaning the board allowed parents to speak but there was no action taken.

The board did not mention the resignations during its update in the public meeting but said the topic would be discussed in the closed session.

The board said it learned of two of the recent resignations right before Wednesday's meeting.

Parents said they have not been officially notified by the school that the teachers are leaving nor what the school's plan is for replacing them.

KFOX14 tried speaking with members of the board of directors but was told they do not have a comment at this time.

"They seem to forget that they are a public entity and that they're accountable to parents," parent Gwen Pulido said. "We definitely expect a very timely response in the next week or so."

A former teacher and parent of a first-
and second-grader at La Fe told KFOX14 she wants the school's policy changed to avoid more sudden resignations.

"There's no way you should be resigning in the middle of the school year," Susan Gonzales said. "I'm sorry. T
hat should not be allowed at all."
