EL PASO, Texas —
"My husband will call the daycare ahead of time and depending on what time we get home from school or work and let her know whether we'll be picking them or they'll be dropping them off at the house," said Jaime Sloan.
But last week on Thursday, it was different. When Sloan's husband called he was told the van was already en route to drop off his kids, ages 6 and 9.
She said the kids were dropped off anyway. Sloan said she hurried home to meet the van there. She said her husband was on his way to work and turned back. When they arrived her children were in the front yard crying.
"My daughter was crying telling me that she was sorry. She thought it was her fault that she didn't tell the driver," said Sloan.
The Director of Playskool on Alameda, Natalie Cooper, had a very different story. She said Sloan's husband called the daycare to tell them he was on his way home.
"Whenever she gets inside the house, she left her belongings and came back to get her younger brother. When she got her younger brother, she went inside and wave at us from the window," said Cooper.
Cooper said her employees know the rules and regulations and they would never leave children by themselves.
"If there's no one to receive the children at home, we're not going to leave them there unsupervised. We need to bring them back to the facility and that they stay here," said Cooper.
Cooper said she reported the incident to the child care licensing program under the department of family and protective services, while the family reported it to the child care management services.
