Overnight Temperatures Could Cause Ice Throughout Dona Ana County

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

The roads were slick throughout Dona Ana County Tuesday morning calling for a lot of close calls.

“As I hit the brakes thinking I was going to stop, I guess because of the ice I kept going, inches away from a pole,” said Roman Valenzuela of north Las Cruces.

As the day went on, temperatures rose and the snow began to melt, but that doesn't mean everyone can relax just yet.

“It's already melting now, I can hear it running off the building so I know for sure it's going to melt, it's going to melt, it's going to melt, if it freezes overnight it's going to be a big problem tomorrow morning,” said Brenda Padilla who works at Johnston’s True Value hardware store.

That means many people may want to go to their local hardware store to get some salt, as it was selling all day at Johnston’s in Las Cruces.

“The 10 pound bags we sold quite a few, eight, we only have five left, the 20 pound bag we sold 14, we don't have any left, the 50 pound bag we sold 26 bags we only have 18 left,” said Padilla.

Thanks to Mother Nature Johnston's has been able to stay busy all day selling nearly 50 bags of salt and a lot of other weather related items.

“They're (Las Crucens) also getting shovels and the scoops and what have you for tonight,” said Padilla.
