Only On KFOX: Chase Through Two States Ends With Crash

A typical traffic stop for Otero County sheriff's deputies turned into something much different.

Deputies say they clocked a Mazda sedan speeding near the New Mexico-Texas state line. When deputies attempted to stop the driver, 34-year-old Jesus Talamaz, officials said he started going faster and the traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase.

The chase continued into Northeast El Paso to the intersection of Fort Worth Avenue and Sean Haggerty. The chase came to an end when the driver ran his car into an off-duty Border Patrol agent's personal vehicle.

The off-duty agent helped apprehend the man and El Paso Police officers took the suspect into custody. The driver's female passenger fled the scene on foot after the crash. As of Wednesday, police were still searching for her.

El Paso police sent their K9 unit to the scene and said they recovered 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana, some pills in baggies and what they are calling a "crack pipe."

The man is facing charges in both Texas and New Mexico for evading deputies, speeding and possession of drugs.
