Only On KFOX: Border Patrol Agents Search Canal

Dozens of police, paramedics and border patrol agents rushed to a canal near Fonseca Avenue early Wednesday after reports that a person was struggling.

The emergency call came in to El Paso firefighters and police shortly after 2 a.m.

Once on the scene, firefighters called the El Paso Border Patrol to help in search efforts.

For close to three hours, teams from both agencies searched the area in question, but the El Paso Water Rescue Team never found anyone in danger.

Shortly after 3 a.m., fire crews left the scene but Border Patrol agents were advised to continue searching from Fonseca Avenue all the way to the canal's end at the water treatment plant.

In the last week, rescue teams have responded to five separate water emergency calls at canals in the Lower Valley.

Those searches resulted in the discovery of three bodies.
