Oil Prices Effect Travel In El Paso

EL PASO, Texas —

High oil prices are effecting travel, according to the president of Sun Travel.

People flying now probably got a cheaper airfare if they bought their tickets a month ago than if they bought recently.

According to the Associated Press, oil prices are stabilizing but still high. They dropped below $97 a barrel just days after spiking above $100. Crude oil dropped on reports that Lybia is still exporting oil. But airline prices aren’t dropping. We talked to a local expert who said if you’re booking a flight for the next coming days or weeks, you’re looking at a increase of $115 to $120.

“Prices seem to be going up on a daily basis and even throughout the day. We'll price an airfare, today, right now, and we’ll go issue that ticket two hours later and the price can go up," said Paul Coleman, president of Sun Travel.

Coleman said prices are not expected to go down. If you’re planning to travel, he advises booking now rather than waiting.
