EL PASO, Texas —

A woman was caught trying to smuggle meth hidden between her thighs while she was attempting to cross the Ysleta international crossing as a pedestrian, officials said.

On Thursday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested 47-year-old Irma Estela Herrera De Nunez of Truth or Consequences, N.M., after they noticed a suspicious package underneath her clothing.

Officers found two methamphetamine-filled bundles between her thighs, held in place by an elastic girdle, officials said. The total weight of the drugs was 2.86 pounds.

"CBP officers remain vigilant knowing that at any moment they may be facing a drug smuggler," said Hector Mancha, CBP El Paso port director. "A smuggler may be male or female, young or old, walking or driving."

De Nunez is being held at the El Paso County Jail without bail.
