By Jesse Martinez

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

A 51-year-old man was sentenced to 70 months in jail for robbing a Las Cruces bank in December 2011, federal officials said.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales and Special Agent in Charge Carol K.O. Lee of the Albuquerque Division of the FBI announced that Daniel Francis Jones will serve jail time and three years of supervised release for robbing the 1st New Mexico Bank of Las Cruces.

On Dec. 13, 2011, Jones entered the bank on 3000 E. Lohman Ave. with a backpack and demanded money from two tellers, officials said.

Jones left the bank and went to nearby stores. He was later detained at a pet store. Police found Jones with the stolen money, officials said.

On March 8, 2012, Jones pleaded guilty to the crime.
