Officials: City of Socorro employee arrested for stealing city property, El Paso stop signs

EL PASO, Texas —

Richard Gutierrez, a maintenance supervisor for the city of Socorro, was arrested for allegedly stealing city property from Socorro and El Paso.

Gutierrez was charged with theft of property by a public servant over $500, under $1,500 for theft of Socorro city property. He was also charged with theft over $50 and under $500 for property belonging to the city of El Paso.

Sheriff's officials said Gutierrez stole several stop signs belonging to the city of El Paso.

Gutierrez was arrested in September for allegedly stealing Socorro city property over $1,500, under $20,000.

Armando Mapula, a maintenance employee for the city of Socorro, was also arrested for theft of property by a public servant over $500, under $1,500.

Both will be booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility Wednesday evening.
